Arriflex raised the bar with the introduction of the Alexa, a lightweight and versatile high resolution digital camera that provides an efficient workflow through simultaneously recording Apple ProRes files, outputting uncompressed HD-SDI video (Log or Linear ITU 709 formats) and uncompressed ArriRaw data.

This camera has a 4:3 Super 35 sensor, the ability to switch from 16:9 sensor mode to 4:3 sensor mode, and built-in anamorphic de-squeeze, high speed and DNxHD capabilities. This means the full area of the sensor can be used with anamorphic lenses. When used with spherical lenses, the taller sensor gives post-production more latitude to reframe the image by moving the top and bottom framelines up or down. The DNxHD license enables recording in 8-bit or 10-bit 4:2:2 modes to SxS PRO cards.

This latest addition to Sony's CineAlta camera line boasts a number of important new features that make the F65 an ideal combination of advanced high-resolution digital technology in a user-friendly package. The F65 is specifically designed for filmmakers, is ergonomically comfortable, and its unique 8K image sensor (with approximately 20 total megapixels) offers higher fidelity than any other digital cinema production camera. A 4960 x 2160 resolution is more than four times greater than full HD. With 16-bit Linear RAW File output the F65 provides a powerful solution to a 4K file-based mastering workflow. An open and inclusive platform enables integration into many systems, facilitating a wide range of production environments.

The F65 has an incredible 14-stop dynamic range with a wide color gamut that provides an exceptionally true color reproduction. This, coupled with its superb resolution provides cinematographers with superior imagery.

Wi-Fi capability facilitates remote control operation from tablet devices (including the Android-based Sony Tablet S and Apple iPad). The F35 is Sony's 35MM film style digital camera that is designed for shooting both television drama and movies for the big screen. This camera is equipped with an Invar Stainless Steel Arriflex PL mount which allows changing the lenses without the need to adjust back focus on the lenses. This camera will accept the lenses with the mount for 35MM Arriflex film cameras allowing the depth of field of 35MM motion pictures. The included Sony SRW1 VTR can be docked on top of or on the back of the F35 or used remotely, providing the flexibility for use in studio, handheld or Steadicam modes. The F35 is virtually noiseless at a high gain dB setting.

When the Sony F900 first became available, Clairmont's engineers made a number of important modifications to the camera to better suit it for use in the HD television and commercial world. This included reconfiguring the lens mounting system to incorporate a reinforced front plate, hardened stainless steel lens mount and improved optical block alignment—allowing lens changes without needing to back-focus and improved stability under a wide range of temperatures.
